VLT-X500LP is also available as a bare bulb: 300 watts, 1500 hours, for owners of the Mitsubishi X500, S490, X490 range or the Yokogawa D-4100X whose lamp housing is still undamaged. You reuse the existing cage and connector and fit only the replacement bulb inside it.
The bare version costs less than the full module because you are not paying for a housing you already have. If your D-4100X or X500 housing has cracked or the connector has become loose, the module version of VLT-X500LP replaces both parts together instead.

Common questions
Will the bare bulb fit into a Yokogawa D-4100X housing, or only Mitsubishi ones?
Yes, the D-4100X uses the same housing design as the Mitsubishi X500, so the bare VLT-X500LP bulb fits it without modification, provided the existing cage and connector are undamaged.
How do I know if my X500's housing is still good enough to reuse?
Check for cracks in the plastic cage, a connector that seats firmly, and no scorch marks around the socket. If those look sound, the bare bulb is a straightforward fit.
Is the bare bulb harder to fit than the module version?
It involves one extra step, opening your existing housing to access the old bulb, but otherwise the process is similar. If you would rather avoid handling the housing at all, the module version is the simpler option.
Does the S490U take the same bare bulb as the X500?
Yes, the S490, S490U, X490, X490U and X500U all share the same VLT-X500LP bulb, so the model name does not change which lamp you need.
What is the rated life of this bulb before I should plan a replacement?
It's rated for 1500 hours. A dimmer or noticeably warmer-toned picture as that figure approaches is the usual sign the bulb is nearing the end of its life.
This is a bare lamp — the bulb only. You reuse the housing already fitted in your projector.
